Some diecast cars wind up becoming rare and valuable collector's items, but most don't (that's why the rarities are called rarities). Truth is, hardcore Nascar diecast collectors collect them because they love diecast cars.
So to be clear, you're probably not going to get rich off of your diecast car collection. If you're a serious collector, you're bound to snag a rarity sooner or later, but the truth is, since diecast cars are, well, diecast, that means that they're durable and most will remain intact for decades to come, so the chances of a mass produced piece becoming rare is pretty slim. Still, the point is, you collect them because you like to, not because you feel you need to for your retirement account.
