If you or someone in your family has been bit by the train collectors' bug you just might be interested in S Scale Model Trains (1:64). S Scale is a great introduction to the world of model railroading for kids of all ages.

Although not the most popular selling scale, the S Scale Model Train cars, at 16 inches long, are comfortable to handle. The railway systems are manageable to build, enjoyable to watch. They are a favorite of many families.

Who will be handling the trains? Children can usually handle S Scale Model Trains with little difficulty. Smaller scales are sometimes difficult to set on the track and the accompanying accessories and scenery are often very small, too small for young children. S Scale is larger and easier for little hands to control. (Always review the manufacturer's directions and age recommendations.)

Where do you want your train to live? This scale train needs a permanent home. It would be cumbersome and frustrating if the railway system that you so carefully built needed to be moved.
Always do your homework in advance and understand just how much space you will need (or will not need) for your railway system. S Scale Trains are big enough to appear realistic but still small enough to build an entire railway system indoors. No worries, you won't need to take over your entire basement or garage.

The NASG (National Association of S-Gaugers) website has information to help you properly configure your space and train system. The association is a group of die-hard and knowledgeable S Scale Model Trains fans. In addition to large amounts of information found on their site, they offer membership for a small fee. Membership benefits include access to other members, convention information, regulations and standards, and loads of information valuable to S Scale Model Train enthusiasts.
